Dear Mike Mateo Sena Elementary School Families and Community,
It is with great excitement and deep gratitude that I introduce myself as the new Principal of Mike Mateo Sena Elementary School. My name is Daniel Lopez, and I am truly honored to serve a school community so rich in heart, culture, and potential.
My journey in education began in the field of Special Education, where I had the privilege of working with students and families across several regions of our beautiful state of New Mexico. I’ve served in Albuquerque Public Schools, Gallup-McKinley County Schools, Farmington Municipal Schools, and Hózhó Academy Charter Schools. Each of these experiences has shaped my understanding of what students need to thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally.
At the core of my philosophy is a simple but powerful belief: school should be the place where every child feels inspired, supported, and safe to become the best version of themselves. Education is not just about grades or tests—it’s about building a strong foundation that helps students grow into compassionate, confident, and capable members of their community.
I am passionate about creating a school environment where the social and emotional well-being of every child is just as important as academic achievement. Every student deserves to be seen, heard, and valued. As they grow, they will learn not only how to succeed in the real world but also how to change it for the better.
To me, leadership is an act of service. I believe in leading with heart, humility, and purpose. I want our students, staff, families, and community partners to feel like one big family—a family that works together to support the success of every child. When we unite around a shared vision, we create the kind of school that lifts everyone.
I look forward to meeting each of you, listening to your stories, and building strong relationships rooted in trust, respect, and collaboration.
